USA Swimming classifies all swimmers by not only age but also ability. Each swim meet will have certain cuts or time standards in order for your child to swim at that specific meet. In the North Texas LSC we are divided into three specific groups for meets: A Meets, BB Meets, and B/C meets. In order to swim in one of the meets your swimmer must have the cut in three different individual events.
All new swimmers 12&Under must swim B/C meets first. All 13&Over swimmers will swim BB meets first. These meets are open to them regardless of their time, even if they have never swum in a meet before.
The basic time standards we use are the National Age Group Motivational Times. Please review these with your child as it is a great motivational tool and a way to see improvement.
Larger swim meets will have much faster and different cuts or times standards than the National Age Group Motivational Times. Some of the important ones for age group swimmers, those 14 & Under are Texas Age Group Time Standards (TAGS). Other ones important for seniors are Junior Nationals, Sectionals, Senior Circuit, Nationals, and Olympic Trials.
The following converter will help you examine your child's times from yards to meters and vice versa. This helps give a good barometer as to what your child might swim in the other course. However, it is not exact and follows a mathematical equation to guestimate the time. For meet entries only times that are of that course can be used. Any times submitted in a different course will be seeded after all of the other times.
